Zig Zag Blue

1987

600 x 400 cm.

Painted perforated mild steel and neon.

Commissioned in 1987 by the architects Hamilton & Associates for the foyer of their new building, Churchill Plaza in Basingstoke.

The sculpture is made from a series of 10 folded triangular forms of painted perforated mild steel and argon. It is 600 cm high and spans a width of 400 cm across the wall. The triangular forms are bolted to the wall, the argon marking the flowing point of contact between the sculpture and the building. Using formal geometric elements, Lijn creates an organic serpentine form by varying the relationship between the single elements.
