The title of this work is taken from The Ruin of Kasch by Roberto Calasso, a book about the history of sacrifice. Calasso alludes both to fragmentation and to cosmic dust in the following quote:

‘It is impossible to experience pure, unrelated fragmentation. The ring, which was adorned with the animals of the Zodiac, is now expanding beyond measure and becoming encrusted with cosmic dust.’
