Split Spiral Spin   1982

1219 high x 610 cm base diameter.

Perforated stainless steel and zinc coated mild steel.

Project for a Sculpture as an Interference System. It was commissioned by Warrington Development Corporation for the Birchwood Science Park in 1982.

The sculpture is composed of 8 parabolic vanes, each curving around the preceding one in what appears on plan to be a spiral armed shape. The overlapping parabolic layers of perforated steel create large-scale interference patterns. When back-lit, the sculpture appears transparent, when front-lit, opaque.
