Hiway Cone   1966

42 x 24 x 24 cm.

Red and white painted cork cone.

I began making the Striped Cones in 1966 and called them Hiway cones because I was inspired by the small striped cones lining the roads. As a child my father woke us to go on late night car trips without prior planning. I remember highways routes to unknown destinations which filled me with excitement and longing. I think of the Hiway cone as a symbol of the ultimate adventure.
