Painted perforated mild steel.

Collection of The Government Chemist.

Commissioned for the entrance foyer of the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in Teddington, London. It is made from a series of 48 identical folded triangular forms in painted perforated mild steel.

Lijn used identical geometric elements to create an organic form dependent on the spatial relationship and connections between the separate elements. This seems to be a very similar process to the organisation of some naturally occurring molecular structures such as the double helix of DNA.
