Linear Light Cylinder
1967
60.5 x 242.3 x 46 cm
Copper-wound metal coil, motor, plywood base and metal frame
“This was the first large Linear Light Cylinder I made. The first I made in London in the summer of 1967 after my return from showing at the Nuove Techniche d’Immagine exhibition at the Palazzo dei Congressi in San Marino, Italy, where I showed Liquid Reflections and a small copper-wound cylinder about 16 by 12 inches.
In this work, which is one of the rare horizontal cylinder pieces, the mechanism is left visible. Coming to London I did not have a studio and therefore discovered that I could have my work made by small engineering workshops and in plastic factories.” – Liliane Lijn
