Two works from Liliane Lijn’s Catastrophic Encounters series – “Cosmic Sea I” (2019) and “Cosmic Fragments IV (Burnt Offering)” (2012) – are exhibited in the group exhibition Scènes dans one bulle de cristal / Seen in a crystal ball, at Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris.

“The series Catastrophic Encounters emerged from traces of a collision between an ancient material, glass, and a new composite material, Vapourshield. Glass and metal furnaces are fascinating because they resemble the earth’s core. Under extreme conditions, materials seem to mimic macrocosmic events. The work “Cosmic Sea I” has biological forms, as if the mineral world of the early, still-hot planet were now morphing into life.” – Liliane Lijn
