Playing with reject pages from Her Mother’s Voice and fallen petals or flowers past their prime, Lijn used both watercolour to blur the printed words and faded flowers as an evocation of the nostalgia of time gone by.

Fierce Archetypes, 1988-1994

In the 1980’s Lijn’s work was imbued with mythological and archetypal images. Lijn was uncovering different and new aspects of the feminine which were greatly nourished by her interest in a large spectrum of materials and technical processes.

The Bride, works on paper, 1987 – 1991

These works on paper were made as a way of conjuring up the Bride sculpture installations. In them, Lijn imagined the inner bride, the numinous and as yet featureless archetypal figure of the betrothed or possessed feminine.

She was the title Lijn gave to a series of numerous drawings, which she began in order to find a new image for what she felt was the essence of the feminine.

Lijn began a series of studies for heads quite consciously in order to develop and change the way she constructed the head areas of her sculptures.
