Liliane Lijn’s work features prominently in this autumn’s Henry Moore Institute exhibition City Sculpture Projects 1972. Lijn’s White Koan was one of the large – scale sculptures that were commissioned as part of City Sculpture Project, “a hugely ambitious scheme (coordinated by the Arnolfini in Bristol and funded by the Peter Stuyvesant Foundation) that commissioned large-scale sculptures for public spaces in eight cities across England and Wales” in the summer of 1972.
White Koan, originally on display in Portsmouth, is now permanently cited on the grounds of the University of Warwick. The exhibition features archival photographs and technical drawings of White Koan and the rarely exhibited koan Tilt (1970).
